Guardiola will struggle to offload Man City man despite claim that ‘they want to sell’ [Opinion]

|

Kevin Campbell hypothesised about Manchester City offloading Jack Grealish next summer, claiming to Football Insider that there will be top clubs interested “If they want to sell” the 27-year-old. But Vital Man City have explained countless times why a deal to sell Grealish will be difficult to get over the line.

Firstly, there’s no suggestion Pep Guardiola actually wants him gone. Grealish has said publicly that the 51-year-old manger is pleased with his performances, even if he’s not regularly starting games. Secondly, why would Jack leave the perennial champions? City have won four Premier League titles and four EFL Cups in five years.

Grealish has made 55 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues since joining from Aston Villa in 2021, scoring seven goals with four assists. He set the club back £100m and earns £300k-per-week in wages.

The 27-year-old had a disappointing debut season (26 PL games, 3 goals, 3 assists) but has fared even worse this campaign with one goal and zero assists from 16 games (all comps), so why would clubs be so desperate to sign an underperforming playmaker?

Grealish’s deal at the Etihad runs until 2027, so suitors would have to commit to paying £175m to match his current contract.
