Manchester City enjoyed a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday evening, but Ederson is one of many players who underperformed at the Etihad Stadium. The 29-year-old started between the sticks against Spurs and made two blunders which led to City going 2-0 down before half-time.
Ederson played a poor pass to Rodri which was badly controlled and led to Dejan Kulusevski finishing from close range. Minutes later, the Brazilian international parried a cross into the path of Emerson Royal who headed home to double the visitors’ advantage.
City scored four goals in the second half to turn the game around, but Pep Guardiola won’t be happy with Ederson’s performance. It could have killed City’s hopes of defending their Premier League title had they not recovered after the break.
Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave Ederson a player rating of 4/10 and said his mistakes were ‘awful’. BBC Sport viewers voted gave him a collective player rating of 5.53/10. SofaScore gave Ederson a player rating of 6.2/10.
The 29-year-old has made 23 appearances in all competitions, conceding 22 goals with 10 clean sheets. He’s shipped seven more goals than his expected tally (14.8) and has a save percentage (64.4%) which puts him fourth from bottom in the goalkeeper charts.
City next face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on Sunday, January 22 and Ederson will no doubt hope for a better performance.
