Guess Who Deserved 9/10 vs. Burnley?

|

WOW, those who attended the Etihad on Saturday watched in awe as City battered Burnley FC who, and let’s be honest, hardly put a foot wrong.

Here are my MCFC player ratings, out of a possible ten.

Ederson – 7

His distribution was at times, exquisite, but then again I wouldn’t expect anything less. Bossed his area with elegance and dynamism.

I am trying to remember if he made any saves, but then again I was too busy watching City doing their business further up the pitch.

John Stones – 7

The only position I didn’t see him play was as an out-and-out striker. One minute he seemed to be part of the back line and then he would pop up and remain for a time as a midfielder. He was all over the place, but then again this must have been part of Pep’s master plan.

Vincent Kompany – 6

Vinny was booked within the first couple of minutes, and deservedly so, trying to retrieve a poor Laporte pass. Why Aymeric put our captain under unnecessary pressure beggars belief.

Kompany didn’t seem to be tuned into the game, perhaps it was because he lacks regular playing time.

Bernardo Silva – 7

Nothing wrong with his performance nor his 54-minute goal. Average display when I expected more.

Fernandinho – 8.5

Two minutes after Bernardo found the net and it was Fern’s turn. As the ball came bouncing towards him, the City faithful inhaled with anticipation and BANG. He hit the ball as sweet as a nut with the side of his foot and boom; the ball flew into Joe Hart’s top corner.

Bossed the midfield as if he owned the joint. Oh, wait for a second….

David Silva – 8.5

Another memorizing display – oozed machismo, graced the field like the living City legend he is.

Benjamin Mendy – 6.5

Harsh rating by yours truly but I felt he could have stepped up another gear. He did okay and didn’t let the side down.

Riyad Mahrez – 9 (Man of the Match)

I have slatted Riyad in the past, but wow, he does have talent. Slick passing, slick movement and a fantastic goal. Poor old Burnley didn’t know how to handle him.

Can he replicate something similar if Pep picks him in midweek?

Sergio Aguero – 7

Opened the scoring with a tap-in. He could have helped himself to a hat-trick but fluffed two golden opportunities.

Leroy Sane – 8.5

Ran Burnley’s midfield and defence inside out. His glowing pace, with the ball, makes me drool with envy.

He may have lost the ball on a couple of occasions (and scored) but when he runs at 90 miles an hour what can you expect.

His poor start to this campaign is nothing more than a distant memory.

Substitutes

Kevin De Bruyne – 7

For Bernardo – 58 mins: Great to see the return of King Kevin. Couple of classy passes from the off. Happy days!

Gabriel Jesus – 5.5

For Aguero 66: Could have and should have scored. Pep was right to start Kun – room for improvement.

Phil Foden – 7

For David Silva 74: Sublime touches, great runs, looked at home. Pep must be battling his conscious as to when he can get Phil in City’s Premier League starting XI.
