Manchester City EDS top scorer John Guidetti has turned down a new contract to remain with the Citizens, choosing instead to leave the club as a free agent in the summer.
The Swedish striker netted a hattrick for City’s Elite Development Squad in a convincing 4-0 victory over Stockport in the Manchester Senior Cup on Wednesday.
His form has led to the 19-year-old featuring on the bench in a number of games for Roberto Mancini’s side, although the young Swede feels he can secure more playing time elsewhere.
Speaking to Sportbladet, Guidetti stated: ‘It’s a good contract but simply not good enough.
‘There are better alternatives. My contract expires this summer and then it’s time to move.
‘It’s a perfect situation. I am a striker who should play in one of the best leagues.’
The situation raises the question – why his contract was allowed to run down to just a few months before offering an extension?
What are your thoughts on Guidetti seeking a move? Is he the new ‘Daniel Sturridge’?
