Manchester City’s third choice goalkeeper, Gunnar Nielsen has been promoted to number one shot-stopper following Shey Given’s unfortunate injury against Arsenal on Saturday.
The Blues and Republic of Ireland number one dislocated his left shoulder after diving at full stretch at the Emirates Stadium, and now the 34-year-old is expected to be sidelined until the beginning of season 2010/11, at least.
Second choice keeper Stuart Taylor is on the treatment table and with Joe Hart on loan at Birmingham City MCFC boss Roberto Mancini has no option but to instantly promote Nielsen from obscurity to instant fame.
Fourth choice shot-stopper, David González Giraldo is expected to follow in Gunnar Nielsen’s footsteps and sit on the bench against Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham.
