After Manchester City hit the headlines with ‘Balloongate’, it seems Martin Jol’s Hamburg SV have taken away City’s bad luck after the 2-1 loss at Eastlands.
Hamburg have slipped to fifth in the league and have now lost against Werder Bremen in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.
Meanwhile, City have recorded three straight victories since the Hamburg clash including an away win at Everton.
Hamburg’s loss against Werder Bremen included their own comedy goal in the ‘Papergate’ affair after a fan threw a screwed up piece of paper onto the pitch causing the ball to bobble up and a routine back pass ended in a miss-hit and a corner. This resulted in a Werder Bremen goal and Hamburg crashing out of the UEFA Cup.
Perhaps this is a good omen for Sunday?
