Many believe that Joe Hart could go on to become a truly exceptional keeper, although in order to do this Fabio Capello feels that he must work on his concentration and stay fully focused: ‘he has to understand when you play with your team you have to be focused every game.
‘With Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal you cannot make mistakes because every game you want to win if you want to arrive at the top of the table.’
To be fair I think Capello makes a good point, as David James was – still is really – a fantastic keeper although it was his lack of concentration that often led him to making mistakes.
James’ ability was rarely an issue, his inability to keep focused when he spent long periods of time doing nothing proved his downfall, and led to many of the ridiculous and needless mistakes that he sometimes made.
Hart, like any keeper, will make mistakes and the only way to improve is to learn from these and become stronger.
The Man City man did make a mistake recently in the FA cup against Leicester and it may well have been that lack of focus, or concentration, caused this?
Either way Capello knows he will make mistakes but he must learn from them and use them as a basis to grow.
To be honest I think that this is a good bit of constructive criticism from the England manager here.
So long as the 23-year-old takes this as it is intended and takes note of it it ‘should’ make him an even better keeper than he is and help him ensure that he remains the undisputed England no.1, which he currently is.
