They said it couldn’t be done, if we’re honest some of us were also unsure if City could make it through this Champions League group before the Munich game, but we finished the job in Rome last night.

A sensation two-nil win in the Stadio Olimpico, coupled with Munich doing us a favour against CSKA, put us into the last 16. Not that it was ever in doubt for Joe Hart with him telling sky sports 5 after the win that he always had faith in our ability to get the job done.

The character and unity that we have always leaves us with a chance and despite it being a slow burner we showed our quality, which was shown with out title win in two of the last three season anyway, to get the job done.

Hart said: ‘We are a strong unit and we believed in it.

‘We had a bit of a slow start but you don’t win the Premier League easily. We’ve got resolve, we’ve got character and we’ve got great players. Add that all together and you have a chance.’

After the ‘great performance’ Hart was quick to point out, rightly so, that we’re ‘moving in the right direction’ as this is now five wins from our last six as ‘we’ve really stepped it up’ of late.

Not bad for a side that are a ‘one man team’ was it, a side that were actually without three key performers!
