Goalkeeper Joe Hart has said it’s no good Manchester City going into the Champions League last 16 second leg against Barcelona next week with any negatives.

Having ended the first leg on a high following the Lionel Messi penalty save to give some hope for the second encounter, Hart told the MEN that we had to go into the game with the positivity that we know we are capable of as a team, and just do our best to not only win the second half as previously, but win the second leg by enough to secure progression.

Schalke’s come back from two nil down against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening also told Hart all he needed to know about comebacks being possible.

‘We can take that feeling with us. We go there one goal down, and will take all the positives with us we can – even watching Schalke go to Real Madrid 2-0 down and doing what they did, can help you. There is no point taking any negatives with you to Barcelona. We aim to be positive, win the game and progress in the tournament.’

With our first half display well known to the fans, and been well covered by the pundits, Hart says the game has been gone over in fine detail to highlight errors and mistakes and they are determined not to repeat them for a second time.

‘We have addressed that. You are playing a top team, and they didn’t even have particularly big chances to go 2-0 up – Suarez snap-shotted me from a crazy angle and then somehow drove in to get his foot in for the second. That’s just the opposition you are playing against. It’s not about playing with fear or underestimating yourselves – it’s just how the game goes sometimes.’

Building on the positives, Hart also referenced our showing in the second leg last year.

‘Last year we really went into it well. Barca will be fully aware – as much as people think it will be a surprise if we play well, it won’t surprise them. They will be expecting a really, really tough game, and we aim to give them one.’

There is a game against Burnley before then though and Hart knows nothing but victory in that battle will do.
