‘The club has signed an incredible player’ – City star’s praise for summer signing

Erling Haaland has been full of goals since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund and is likely to come up against his former club in Wednesday’s Champions League clash. City host Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium and are favourites to maintain their 100% record in the group.

Haaland has scored 12 goals from eight appearances in all competitions this season but caught flak for his lack of contribution outside of taking shots. Ilkay Gundogan came to his defence, however, by insisting the 22-year-old will “show a lot more” in years to come.

Gundogan said of Haaland in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference: “His future is very bright. He will show us a lot more in the coming years.

“The club has signed an incredible player and an incredible person.”

Haaland has scored an impressive 10 goals in six Premier League outings, but he’s been criticised for averaging 12.8 passes per game and creating just three chances.

The Norwegian international was signed to score goals and is delivering on that front, but he’s still getting used to his teammates. Haaland has played for five clubs (Bryne FK, Molde, RB Salzburg, Dortmund, City) in four different countries (Norway, Austria, Germany, England), so he’s proven he’s adaptable.

Gundogan is confident he’ll be a complete player as time goes on, so fans shouldn’t be worried as the season is still in its infancy. It’s not easy to acclimatise to Pep Guardiola’s philosophy either.
