‘He won’t be happy’ – Pundit says 24 y/o will ‘push to leave’ as Man City eye transfer

|

Manchester City have been trying to sign Marc Cucurella all summer but have had their efforts rebuffed by Brighton & Hove Albion due to the two clubs being £10m apart in their valuations of the 24-year-old.

And while the Seagulls recently ended talks with City, Noel Whelan believes Pep Guardiola will land his man before the transfer window shuts as Cucurella will continue pushing for an exit.

He told Football Insider: “Cucurella won’t be happy with Brighton pricing City out of a deal. He wants to win things and challenge at the top of the table. He’ll be pushing to leave.

“£50million does seem very high and seems like Brighton are just trying to take advantage of City’s finances. But Brighton will want to strengthen as well. £40million could get them two new signings.”

Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe for £15m last summer and has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls, scoring one goal with two assists.

Brighton are requesting more than triple the money they paid for the 24-year-old which may be why City are refusing to up their bid, but Cucurella has requested a transfer, so his future is uncertain.

Albion have him contracted until 2026, so they don’t need to cash in early or for cheap. City selling Oleksandr Zincheko puts pressure on the negotiating team to land a replacement left-back as the new season looms, so Brighton playing hardball might be successful.

Guardiola has internal solutions if City don’t bring in a defender, but he does need depth in case of injury.

Utter rubbish based on speculation. It’s reported, I heard from reliable sources, pundits say this say that. It’s rumoured lol that Cuccurella put in a transfer request. NO HE DID NOT. Cuccurella had a meeting with Weir and Potter to get clarity on his position. Cuccurella was told he’s a valuable member of the squad and that Brighton are happy with him. He was also told that Man City must reach Brightons valuation for him. Cuccurella was happy with the discussion and left happy with potter.
At no time did Cuccurella place a request for a transfer. Fabrizio is a close friend of Cuccurella’s agent and funny enough Pep Guadiola. Also to quash reports from journalists Cuccurella was left out of the squad yesterday because he was told to relax chill and get his head together. He’s contracted to Brighton until 2026.
Man City want him? Pay up or shut up.
Also the professionalism of so called sports journalists during this transfer window has been appalling. Facts truth and evidence for their speculation has reached a new low. Brighton would never stand in the way of any player who wants to win medals. We didn’t with Ben White or Bissouma but neither will Brighton be pressured into selling a player. Our chairman is adamant and what journalists think is irrelevant. It’s this simple fellas/ladies. If Man City want Cuccurella then they pay Brighton’s valuation. If not then Cuccurella will remain a Brighton player. It’s not taking advantage of city’s financial status, it’s business! End of debate.

We can’t argue with any of that. As a City fan, I hope it gets done soonest. The price is the price and Brighton have every right to demand what they like, he’s their asset. We always seem to do this haggling for players when we do actually need a spot filling. It has been obvious for a while that LB is our Achilles heel. Stop p**&ing about and pay the wedge, the long term cost of NOT doing it may be evident come May next year?

  • Simon Baker says:

He signed a 5 year contract 12 months ago. His agent knew what he was doing and he knew what he was doing. Why do footballers think contracts mean nothing if they ‘want a move’. Brighton are entitled to keep him at the club until his contract expires, he should be a professional, shut up, and do his best for Brighton.

I have asked my I 8yo Granddaughter to write the next update on the Cucurella affair.
It would appear she has a better understanding of the facts and far more integrity than any of these so called Journalists, or pundits.
The driving force for these inaccurate rumours appears to be the cosy relationship between Cucurella’s agent, Fabrizio & Guardiola.

For the less intelligent among you, Brighton are not being greedy. They have a player with 4 years left on his contract whom the y rate very highly and have no wish to sell.
But, every player has his price where a transfer could happen. Until City offer that price he is going nowhere regardless of how many times clown jounalists revamp the story.

  • Chris says:

I am a Brighton supporter and believe that city are a great team and I love to watch the way they play. All the talk is only destabilising the player the team and us as fans. If our chairman values our player at £50 million plus then that is the price. As a club we don’t have the resources that city have. But Tony Bloom is Brighton through and through and he will
do what is right for the club. Greedy agents will always be there. Many city fans will understand Brightons stance. At 24 City will have him for years to come, the hierarchy at City only embarrass themselves thinking they can bully smaller teams. Such a shame for such a great club
