History Of The ‘Poznan’

As a Manchester City supporter my first induction to the so-called ‘Poznan’ dance (call it what you will) was when City played polish side, Lech Poznan.

It was in 2010 when the Blues were playing in the Europa Cup – during the match Lech Poznan supporters (I can’t remember the exact point in the game) turned their backs against the pitch, linked arms to peeps’ shoulders directly either side to one another and began to jump up and down in harmony. During the dance I do believe they sang something in their native tongue.

Shock turned to amazement, then before I knew it City fans were beginning to talk about the dance (now called the ‘Poznan’) via social media.

For the last five years the Etihad and Wembley Stadium has seen us doing the ‘Poznan’, in fact the spectacle looks awesome. The bonding, the comradery, the whole experience brings a tear to my eye. In fact the respective stadium foundations appear to move in rhythm.

I’ve witnessed other UK football team supporters doing the ‘Poznan’, Scottish Premiership side Celtic spring to mind, but no one, I mean no other set of fans do the ‘Poznan’ like we do.

The original Lech Poznan supporters.

Wouldn’t be cool if we did the ‘Poznan’ during the team announcements prior to Sunday’s kick off against Tottenham?
