How dare anyone say Manchester City are buying success? To be honest I’m sick to death hearing about it. It irritates the hell out of me, especially when we all know it’s not true.

Or if it is, City are no worse than many others.

In the 1970’s and 80’s it was Liverpool buying all of the best players. In the 90’s it was Manchester United and then came Chelsea.

Okay, MCFC has a wealthy owner, but hasn’t several other top flight English clubs?

First of all, City have not won anything this season. In fact, our last trophy was in 2016 (League Cup) when City drew 1-1 with Liverpool and then went onto win 3-1 on penalties. The club won the 2013/14 Premier League and then one has to look back to 2011 since we last won the FA Cup.

Wealthy Premier League owners and how much they are worth.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich – £8 billion

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke – £5.8 billion

Stoke City owners the Coates family – £5 billion

Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis – £4.6 billion

Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha – £3.64 billion

Manchester United owners the Glazer family – £3.3 billion

Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr – £3 billion

West Bromwich Albion owner Guochuan Lai – £2.8 billion

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley – £2.1 billion

Liverpool owner John W Henry – £1.94 billion

Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom – net worth: Around £1 billion

In 2008 Abu Dhabi United Group bought Manchester City FC for £210 million. In the intervening years the club has had slowly but surely purchase players who fitted in with the clubs ethos. Yes, it has taken ten years.

Finally, and at last the club has a world class coach and world class players. But as I’ve said, it’s taken a decade to do so and the club still hasn’t won anything under Pep Guardiola.

In time perhaps!

Who would you say, out of the above are the worst offenders in trying to buy immediate success?
