Watch the airports and bus stops, Blues. Something will have to give sooner or later as there are only 16 more days remaining in January and our team is serving up some seriously dire football.

Mark Hughes has led from the front this morning by facing a press conference where he aimed to clarify the developments surrounding the brilliant Kaka which have sent the world’s hacks into a demented overdrive of speculation and intrigue. Some of the pontificating from certain footballing figures and hacks has beggared belief.

This isn’t an unusual situation for Hughes surprisingly enough, as to his credit, he was very often the one lone voice explaining away club policy and plans in the months following his appointment by Frank Shinawatra while the club’s hierarchy, namely Garry ’14 club league’ Cook went missing.

Here’s what he had to say…

‘It’s been well documented that we have expressed an interest in signing the player (Kaka). Garry Cook and a number of other people went to Milan to get an understanding of the situation involving the player, but to add any more substance to that would be wrong. We are trying to concentrate on any deals that we can get completed.

‘To keep on speculating on different players and different levels of investment is wrong. We just need to concentrate on deals as and when they come to fruition.’

Hughes then went on to deal with rumours from the Middle East that City had pulled the plug on the bid.

‘I saw those reports. You have to bear in mind that the people involved when given a platform seem to come out with these kinds of stories. They do not represent the owner, Sheikh Mansour, or the Chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak. They should not be given the platform to say what they have said, because what has come out this morning is completely untrue.’

‘The owners made their intentions clear from the outset. They want the club to progress and make it have a strong presence in world football. That`s going to take some time but we are trying to set those wheels in motion.’

Meanwhile, it’s easy to forget amongst all this mayhem that the current beleaguered City squad have an important Premier League fixture on Saturday against the resurgent Pie Tasters. Nothing less than total focus will see City win that game and Hughes will be all too aware of it.
