Raheem Sterling could be on his way out of Manchester City amid interest from Chelsea. Despite making 47 appearances in all competitions this season, the 27-year-old is unhappy at being left out of some big games and appears to be open to a move away from the Etihad Stadium.
Sterling’s contract is up in 2023 and he’s not close to putting pen to paper on an extension, so he may have played his final game under Pep Guardiola. Danny Mills doesn’t understand why Sterling would be sold, however, saying on talkSPORT: “I think he’s a terrific player who’s nearly a good fit for any team.
“He’s adds goals, he adds pace. I find it strange, unless he’s got silly demands, that he’s not staying. He’s got a phenomonal goals output, he’s had success and played a major part in that. There was a time where Pep wouldn’t leave him out.”
Sterling has made 339 appearances in all competitions since joining City from Liverpool in 2015, scoring 131 goals with 95 assists. The England international, who’s scored 19 goals with 25 assists from 77 caps, has been a terrific servant for the Sky Blues but may want a new challenge.
Chelsea aren’t a step up on the career ladder, however, so Sterling risks losing out on silverware next season to be handed a few extra starts. The Londoners won’t land his signature unless they match his asking price, however.

Sterling is in the last year of his contract and wants to leave. City do not keep players who don’t want to stay. So it is obvious why we would sell him, but only if the price is right.
City are a well run business.
By his own standards Sterling has been poor for the last two seasons. He needs a new challenge to revitalise his career. This is the reason he has found himself on the subs bench. Alvarez is his replacement. Younger and hungrier.
Why find it strange? Sterling has not been on his best form this past season. He has drifted in and out of games and his misses have cost us points when we would have been home and dry before the last game v Villa. He has been a great servant to the club but in order for City to evolve, we must jettison those that are not performing at peak. Basic economics and structure. We have 2 new exciting players in Haaland and Alvarez, Sterling would get even less playing time. We wish him well with whatever or wherever he chooses to go.
