‘I got four hooks and three repairs’ – Man City player details surgery on recent injury

Kyle Walker recovered from a groin injury earlier in November and has been training for a couple of weeks after successful surgery, so he’s ready to get back out on the pitch.

England lock horns with USA in their second World Cup group game on Friday evening and the 32-year-old is hoping to feature at Al Bayt Stadium, but he revealed how much work went into his rehabilitation so he could make a speedy return.

As per the London Evening Standard, Walker told reporters: “I had the operation, it was needed. I probably played three weeks longer than I should have done. The 32-year-old had made eight appearances in all competitions prior to the injury, amassing 653 minutes of playing time.

He added: “The Manchester United game was the final straw when it popped. It was a rupture on my groin. I got four hooks on my groin and I did three repairs, but it was going fantastically well. I am really happy. Everyone seems to be happy with it.”

Walker being named in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar raised eyebrows as it was expected that he’d miss the group stages, but Gareth Southgate insisted the right-back would return sooner than the knockouts and that’s proven to be true.

Whether Walker will start against USA ahead of Kieran Trippier or as a third centre-back remains to be seen, however. Southgate may not want to change his starting eleven after England thrashed Iran 6-2 in their opener, but Walker could play in England’s final group game if the Three Lions have secured qualification as winners.
