I Simply Don’t Recognise Man City Anymore!

Vital Manchester City regular, BlueWolfie sent us the following:

After watching Manchester City’s win against a very good Arsenal side, I have come to the conclusion that I do not recognise my beloved City anymore. Please allow me to explain.

For years I watched a shoddy defence, that let in more goals than I care to remember. But yet at the same time, I saw the City forwards blasting away at the opposing goal – can we score more than you? said the City heirarchy, well we will bloody well try. As it turned out, we often didn’t.

On top of that, I remember when looking like we might get something from a game, we would sit back and not fight on, only to watch the opposing side build up momentum and eventually win, taking not just the points, but our pride and anything that wasn’t screwed down.

That is how it has always been and I’ve grown use to it, even if I didn’t like it – kinda like that drunk Uncle everybody has, that only ever turns up for big family parties.

Now however, City have changed the way they play, and dare I say it, they are actually playing like a really good side.

The game at the weekend was (even for a neutral) a tense affair, because everyone knows what Arsenal are capable of, and equally, what City are capable of. But this isn’t City of old (or essentially in general), this is a team that actually knows how to win, and then goes ahead and does it, and does it with an air of professionalism.

Arsenal were not made out to look like amateurs, in fact they were pretty damn good, but City were better, and as I type this, a part of me still can’t believe what I have seen thus far during the season.

This is not a complaint, far from it. I, like most of you, was shouting and screaming like a little girl during the game on Saturday. It’s just that we were (and have been) so damn proficient in winning, that it is actually starting to scare me.

Will it continue? I truly hope so. I know we will have that really bad performance where we get beaten by a team we should have knocked 27 past, it is just the way for all teams. But for once, I can see the possibility that maybe, just maybe, my club will surpass all expectations and actually do something worth while.

Even if I don’t know who they are anymore.
