‘I would worry’ – Paul Merson says Man City will ‘massively miss’ 27 y/o when he leaves

Raheem Sterling looks set to join Chelsea, ending a seven-year stay at Manchester City. The 27-year-old has had a hand in 225 goals from 337 games while playing a big part in City winning four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups, but Pep Guardiola is not standing in his way of a departure.

Paul Merson believes this is a mistake and says City will ‘massively miss’ Sterling when he makes the switch to Stamford Bridge this summer. With the England international boasting double figures for Premier League goals in each of the last five seasons, Merson is adamant that Sterling won’t be an easy player to replace.

He told Sky Sports: “I would worry about Man City selling Sterling as you’re selling a lot of goals. There’s an art to what he does and he will be a massive miss to Man City next season if he leaves.” Jack Grealish will be forced to step up and fill Sterling’s shoes after a disappointing debut campaign, but Cole Palmer will be given more opportunities in his absence too.

And then there’s Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez who are still options for Guardiola, so the City manager isn’t exactly short in attack.
