‘Impressive’ – Journalists praise Man City player for ‘decent performance’

|

Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw away to FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, but there were a number of players who put in good performances. Rodri was one of them and can be happy with his efforts after a solid showing at the Parken Stadium.

The 26-year-old started in a deep-lying midfield role but dropped into defence after City went down to 10 men. No player had more touches, aerial duels, passes and interceptions than Rodri, but it wasn’t enough to steer the Sky Blues to victory.

Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News gave Rodri a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘impressive’ in defence. Michael Graham of 90min gave the Spanish international a player rating of 7/10 and said he put in a ‘decent performance’.

Against Copenhagen, Rodri played for 90 minutes, had 136 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 90.2% of his 123 passes, created one chance, had one shot, made two tackles, whipped in one crosses, made two interceptions, won one freekick and made one clearance.

Rodri has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, grabbing three assists. He missed City’s 6-3 win over Manchester United due to injury and was an unused substitute in their 5-0 win over FC Copenhagen but has impressed ever since he returned to the starting eleven.
