Injury boost as Man City player returns to training ahead of Leicester clash

|

Manchester City travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Saturday afternoon and have received an injury boost ahead of the Premier League meeting. Phil Foden took part in a light training session after damaging his foot during the 2020 European Championships.

The 21-year-old wasn’t able to feature in the final for England, but his injury wasn’t expected to be serious at the time. Foden was seen wearing a protective boot and still hasn’t fully recovered months later, so the damage was worse than feared.

Foden has made 124 appearances in all competitions for City since rising through the youth ranks to the first-team, scoring 31 goals with 22 assists. His last outing for the Premier League winners came in their Champions League final defeat to Chelsea on May 29.

Foden played three times for England during the Euros but missed the final defeat to Italy and hasn’t been on a pitch since. The 21-year-old is making notable progress, however, so his return should be sooner rather than later.

Pep Guardiola will be delighted to have Foden back after his outstanding season in 2020/21 – 16 goals and 10 assists in 50 games across the board.
