Injury boost as Man City’s ‘exceptional player’ looks ‘set to return’ against Brighton

Manchester City have been given a boost ahead of Wednesday evening’s meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion, confirming on their official website that Raheem Sterling is ‘set to return’ against the Seagulls.

The 26-year-old missed Sunday’s FA Cup win over Birmingham City as he was short of fitness but is now available for selection and could start at the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and supplying eight assists. He’s created 18 chances and made 28 successful dribbles in 14 Premier League games, scoring or making an assist in four of his last six.

The in-form England international, who Pep Guardiola has called ‘an exceptional player’ in the past, is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit, so his return is bad news for Brighton.

Albion are one place above the relegation zone and are without a win in their last eight games, so the last thing they need is a Man City side with one of their most influential players back.

As for the Sky Blues, Guardiola’s men sit sixth in the table and could move three places up to third with a win.
