There’ll be hopes raised across the Emerald Isle right now as City midfield maestro and defence unlocker Stephen ‘Superman’ Ireland considers an international return…

If Stevie does decide to don the famous green shirt again as he continues his second consecutive punishing kung fu karate summer fitness regime in and around Glossop, the timing would be perfect.

Eire have three more World Cup qualifying games remaining and are second in their group behind Italy who they will face at Croke Park in October.

Ireland revealed to the Irish media this week:

‘I will be thinking about it over the summer. I spoke to Giovanni Trapattoni three weeks ago so we are going to meet up soon and see how it goes, but yeah, I’m going to have a long, hard think about it. We’ll see. I’ve had a good think about it already so we’ll see what happens when I meet up with Trapattoni.’
