Erstwhile City Superman and the club’s former Player of The Year Stephen Ireland is alledgedly holding out for a contract pay off before accepting a move to Aston Villa…

Major newswires are now starting to report the story as the longest running transfer saga of the season, that of James Milner from Villa to City, fails to be completed.

This much we know already. Milner was all set to head up to Manchester from London after England’s friendly game against Hungary on Wednesday night but was told to wait with his City medical put on the back burner.

The deal between The Blues and The Villans is said to involve £18 million cash from City to the midlanders alongside the former Republic of Ireland international Ireland.

BBC Sport reports Friday morning that Ireland and his agent are holding out for a £2 million pay off which other sources report is perceived to be a warranted loyalty bonus by the Ireland camp.

As the countdown to the new season continues ‘Milnergate’ is almost certain to rumble on in limbo unless the Ireland situation is not resolved.

It would be a great shame for Ireland’s association with the club that gave him his big chance in football to end upon an unsavoury note.
