Is Time Up for Joey?

Reports in todays newspapers suggest that City could listen to offers for Joey Barton if he fails to commit himself to the club in the next month.

This may of course be more unfounded speculation, but should City be taking a tough line on players who don’t seem to be entirely sure if they want to play for the club?

Although a lot of the focus has been on Joey’s reluctance to put pen to paper, City have the same issue with Distin who is also waivering about signing a new deal, and he has been linked with a move back to his native France.

Pearce’s frustration seems to be growing at the senior players who do not seem to share his passion and commitment for the club, and he has let it be known he is not impressed.

Personally, I’m getting fed up with contract issues dominating the news, not just at City, but within the game generally, and I would love to see clubs take a hard line against players and their agents.

It’s quite simple really, if you don’t want to play for the club and give 110% and you’d rather be somewhere else, then move on quickly and we’ll get players who do.
