Vital Manchester City received the following from VMC stalwart, fifthcolumnblue.

With the finishing line approaching, Manchester City is firmly on course to land a Champions League berth for the first time ever. Add to this a long overdue appearance in the FA Cup final, and it would seem that the boys in Blue are on course for their best season in living memory.

I’m sure most of my fellow Blues are having to pinch themselves at how well things have gone thus far, with the defeat of our arrogant neighbours in the semi-final particularly satisfying to all City fans.

Alas, it would seem that the Citizen’s newfound success is not to everyone’s liking; all throughout the season we have had to contend with constant media sniping over issues that would not be newsworthy at any other club – nowadays circus City sells papers as the new ‘Moneybags’ that were ‘Ruining football’ have become almost a national obsession, particularly for the fans of a few teams that used to have things all their own way.

Our players hate one another – our manager is one result from being sacked – our best players have flopped and want out of the club – there is no team spirit amongst our mercenaries – we play boring defensive football that puts our fans to sleep.

We’ve heard it all season, and many of us have learned to ignore it, lest the cries of ‘You’re just being paranoid’ drown out our protests at the slanderous and scandalous coverage the hacks have meted out to us since the beginning of the season. But as the old saying goes, ‘Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you’, and as the season nears it’s climax, it would seem the media are making one last attempt to cause just enough dissent within our ranks to throw us off course.

I’m talking of course about the frenzied speculation linking just about every one of our important players with moves away from City.

We’ve heard today in one shameless national tabloid that our manager is most definitely on his way to Juventus, Jerome Boateng is off to Bayern, Inter are the favourites to land Tevez, Kolarov is being sold, Balotelli will be lining up across the city from Tevez, De Jong will be plying his trade back in the Bundesliga next season, Micah Richards is off to Italy, Milner has flopped and will be sold, and our favourite for player of the season sees no Silva lining in Manchester and is back off to sunny Spain.

PHEW! With such fevered speculation surrounding virtually our first choice 11, is it any wonder planet Blue is getting a bit hacked off? Time to circle the wagons, ignore the haters and just get on with things – it’s getting frantic out there, let’s keep our heads!
