David James has signed a one-year contract extension that will tie him to City until the end of the 2006-07 season.

Despite losing his place in the England set up, Pearce believes the 35 year old shot stopper still has what it takes telling the official site:

‘His form over the last two years has prompted me to sit down and say, ‘Where do I get a better goalkeeper than David James?…For me he’s in the top six goalkeepers in the Premiership.’

Pearce continues ‘In some ways he’s played a big part in our defensive record over the last couple of years, and I fully expect that to go on for the duration of his contract….He’s a very fit boy for his age, there’s not an ounce of fat on him, he’s professional in his manner and outlook, and he just wants to do well, so it’s a just reward for that.”

Meanwhile, yawnsome Sven says that the door is still open to David James’ World Cup dreams despite being axed after the dire 4-1 friendly defeat to Denmark.

Sven told the Manchester Evening News: ‘keeper a possibility of a return providing he continues to excel with City. The door is still open, I have told David that personally and I have always said it publicly. ‘The base for selection is always to play well for your club. That is what I will pick squads based upon and I hope he goes on and plays well for City.’
