City will be looking to pick up their first points of the season when they entertain a re-vitalised Portsmouth team on Wednesday evening.
Pompey travel to Eastlands on the back of a 3-0 home win against Blackburn on the opening day. New boy, Kanu, grabbed two of the goals on his debut but isn’t expected to start because of his lack of pre-season training.
City will be hoping Andreas Isaksson and Dietmar Hamman are both fit to make their debuts for the blues after Sunday’s woeful showing at Chelsea. Darius Vassell looks certain to start as Corradi starts a ban for his sending off on Sunday.
The game may well see David James make an early appearance against City and you can expect him to have one of his better games as we are the opposition.
Pompey haven’t beaaten City in the top flight in Manchester since 1954. Let’s hope it stays that way after this fixture.
Stuart Pearce expects Portsmouth to be tough to beat after their recovery act last season. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Pearce spoke of the tremendous achievement in staying up that Redknapp made possible.
“Harry did a hell of a job keeping them in the Premiership last season. I saw them lose at Aston Villa in March and thought they were in big, big trouble. But the one thing about Harry is that he is prepared to put his neck on the line.’
