Journalist says Man City are ‘serious’ about signing Milan star and could offer £10.6m salary

Despite Pep Guardiola being overstocked with left-sided forwards (Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez), Manchester City are still being linked with Rafael Leao.

The 23-year-old, who represented Portugal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is having a fantastic domestic season at AC Milan and TuttoMercatoWeb say he finds himself on City’s radar as a result.

Leao’s existing deal is up next year and TMW say Milan are desperate to tie him down to a contract extension worth £6.2m-a-year in wages. City are willing to offer the forward £10.6m, however, so he might be lured to England.

The 23-year-old joined Milan on a five-year deal from LOSC Lille in 2019 and has gone on to make 135 appearances in all competitions, scoring 34 goals with 30 assists. This season, Leao has scored seven goals with nine assists from 20 games across the board.

Leao would improve City’s attack with more goal contributions (16) than Foden (11), Alvarez (9) and Grealish (3), but Guardiola would have to sell an existing player to make room for him.
