Sunday gave us an out of this world Man City team taking on their arch rivals, Manchester United, and it was a game for City fans to remember.
United without Robin Van Persie still started with a strong side but not as strong as the team Manuel Pellegrini put out there for The Blues. As the teams warmed up, the United fans seemed very subdued and quiet whilst the City fans sang their hearts out.
City flew out of the blocks as soon as Howard Webb blew his whistle and attacked United straight away. As the game developed, the stand out player for me was Samir Nasri who had a blinder of a game, being available at every possible opportunity and tearing United’s defence apart.
For City’s first goal, Nastasic read a ball that was played up to Welbeck and headed it on to Nasri. Nasri used his pace pulling off some beautiful skills to fool the defence, passing to Kolarov who picked out Aguero with a pin point cross. Aguero tidily volleyed the ball into the goal. The crowd and Sergio went mental. Just before half time, Samir whipped a ball in from a corner to find Negredo who with a great leap flicked the ball on with a super header allowing Yaya Touré to deflect it in off his knee. You could feel the thrill flow through the entire stadium.
In the second half, City came racing out continuing their attacking and hurrying of United, getting into their faces. All too soon, they found their prize as Nasri located Negredo who did really well with the ball to find an unmarked Aguero who tapped home another goal to make it 3-0. The City crowd erupted once more in delight and astonishment. All the players bar Joe Hart rushed to celebrate with the team and the fans.
Only a few minutes later, Navas charged down the right flank to float in a ball too high for Negredo but on course for Nasri’s right boot to volley home a fourth. The City fans were in dreamland maybe thinking about the possibility of repeating a 6-1 win with over 35 minutes to go.
City kept pushing with Negredo firing wide and Dzeko unleashing a stinging shot too hot for de Gea to handle. Unfortunately, in the 86th minute Wayne Rooney hit a good free kick just out of Joe’s reach preventing him from keeping hold of a clean sheet.
All through the game City`s defence was strong, stopping dead any of the threats United tried to make. Kompany with his strength and determination was a key player in this role inspiring his team to work together to give an outstanding performance, minimising Rooney’s effect on the game by not allowing him a moment’s rest. Our Captain continually showed, in my opinion, why he is the best centre back in the world once more by great defending and the ability to distribute fabulous balls out such as the one he cleared for Nasri’s goal.
When the final whistle blew the players and fans were in high spirits after defeating their rivals yet again by some margin. Many players had a great game, but my favourite by far was Samir Nasri who’s efforts people have questioned. He was outstanding and for me put in a Man Of The Match performance.
