Manchester City have confirmed that Kasper Schmeichel, son of the legendary Peter Schmeichel has left the club to hook up with former City manager Sven Goran Eriksson at Notts County.
The 22-year-old Dane has reportedly signed a five-year contract with the Magpies in a deal which is believed to be in the region of a seven-figure sum, smashing the club’s previous transfer record.
In City’s 2007/08 campaign, Schmeichel recorded four clean sheets in seven appearances, although the emergence of Joe Hart and Shay Given had consigned the talented keeper to the reserves.
Notts County manager Ian McParland was delighted with the coup, stating to the Nottingham Evening Post: ‘It is a great signing for the club, obviously. He is one for now and one for the future’.
