‘Keep Faith With Strikers’ – Pearce

City Boss, Stuart Pearce has given our so far misfiring strike force a big vote of confidence ahead of tomorrow’s game against Newcastle United at Eastlands.

So far this season, City have managed only a pathetic total of seven goals in the Premiership, with Samaras the only striker to find the back of the net; the bulk of the goals coming from the defence and midfield.

Backing his four-pronged strike force, Pearce said:

‘I am still confident in the ability of my strikers. You have to remember two of them are new to the club; Paul Dickov has just come back, and Darius has only just got himself back fully fit and fighting for a place again.

Suddenly, I have four fit strikers – so if I wanted to change things during a game the option is open to me, which is something that certainly was not the case three weeks ago.

We are creating chances, and it is only a matter of time before they are converted. Suddenly, a couple of them will go in; we will win back-to-back games and off we will go.’

I admire Psycho’s loyalty and optimism and hope he’s right. Tomorrow’s game against a struggling Newcastle is, on paper anyway, a game we should be able to win, but we all know games are not won on paper but on the pitch.

The strikers won’t have a better chance to show two fingers to all their doubters with some much needed goals, which would relieve the pressure on themselves and the club.

Personally, I still can’t decide whether we’re just a couple of nerve-settling goals away from having a confident strike force capable of getting 30-plus goals between them ( I’m talking Corradi and Samaras here ), or whether they’re just not up to it as a partnership.

My heart tells me the former, but my head says the latter; time will tell.

Bythe way, what’s wrong with giving Sturridge and Etuhu a go? They can’t do much worse can they ?
