City are about to benefit from what will feel like a new signing this week. Captain Vincent Kompany returns from a ridiculous suspension to face an uncompromising Everton…

The moment Chris Foy’s hopelessly inconsistent arm went up to dismiss Kompany in the opening stages of the FA Cup derby at the start of the month, everyone associated with the club knew that an already tough January fixture challenge was about to get a whole lot tougher.

It’s very often easy to forget that Kompany, multi-lingual and arguably the finest centre half in Europe is still only 25 years old, such is the ambassadorial authority with which he leads his team.

Since signing from Hamburg for a now unimagineable £6 million in August 2008, the Blues skipper has chalked up 154 appearances, scoring 5 goals. On a disciplinary tip, he’s been booked 28 times and sent off twice. A stunning record considering the level of close fought physical combat he engages in and the athletic tackling he is reknowned for. While we are at it statistically, City have the meanest defence in the Premier League again this season and that’s testament to the big Belgian’s organisational skills.

Vinny’s return from suspension at Goodison Park features in this week’s citytv episode of Inside City:
