In times of trouble this is the bloke to look to. Few Blues if any would complain if Roberto Mancini made Vinnie his permanent captain with immediate effect…

Kompany took the armband in the absence of Carlos Tévez through injury and put in yet another superb defensive performance for the cause. Sports hacks on the continent have heaped praise on the Belgian giant following the defeat at Chelsea, referring to the classy City man as ‘Le Rock.’

He’s in no mood for compromise. He told the MUEN:

‘We are around third and fourth, so definitely want to make sure we can stay there and see afterwards what happens. We look at the schedule and think we have a good chance.

‘My target is to win every game that is left. The teams around us are not guaranteed to get all the points…It was never going to be straightforward to say we want to be champions and then become champions. The important thing is that we are improving and no-one can hold it against us if we do that. If we do that and then improve again next season we have done our job, and then one day we will be up there.’

Kompany, who turns 25 years old next month, signed for City in August 2008. He has since clocked up 108 league and cup starts with 8 appearances from the bench, scoring 3 goals.

The honorary Mancunian is absolutely determined to make it happen at City. If the club does aspire to glory this year then Vincent Kompany will have had one hell of a say in the outcome.
