Kyle Walker makes admission about Pep Guardiola’s future at Man City

|

Pep Guardiola finally ended speculation over his Manchester City future by signing a new two-year deal this week and Kyle Walker was full of praise for the 51-year-old. He’s the longest-serving active manager in the Premier League and will take his stay in Manchester to nine years if he sees out his contract.

City are second in the Premier League, in the last-16 of the Champions League, in the fourth round of the EFL Cup and will be in the third round of the FA Cup, so Guardiola still has a chance at four competitions this season. Pep also has one of the strongest squads he’s assembled, so he’d be foolish to leave.

As per the London Evening Standard, Walker said: “What words can I say that is going to do him justice, really? What he’s achieved, especially since I’ve been there, in the six seasons. What a man, what a manager first and foremost.

“But his results back that up and I think for him to get the contract I think he shows faith in the club and the club show faith in him, in the direction that the club’s moving. Hopefully we can go onto new strides and new steps in the ladder to achieve what we want.

“I think it’s great for the Premier League to have a manager like that. It’s great for City because he knows the players, the staff. It’s not a lot of chopping and changing. It’s great what he’s building and hopefully we can keep going.”

Guardiola’s previous deal was expiring in just a matter of months, raising uncertainty over his future, but the Spaniard was always relaxed when talking about his contract. He had no intention to leave and City had no reason to let him go, so an extension was always on the cards.

Now Pep can focus on winning silverware this season and can plan for the next two years with a very strong squad of players. There’s no guarantee he will definitely leave in 2025 either. All will depend on how the team are performing on all fronts.
