Frank Lampard’s focus during his loan spell with City will now be purely on the club with his decision to retire from international football confirmed today.

It looks as though Lampard was going to continue to make himself available for England during his loan spell at the Etihad but with a first squad shortly to be named for the first England games since the world cup the 36-year-old decided that the time was right to end his 15-year international career.

With him career ‘going in another direction now’, following his signing for City’s American franchise New York City in the summer, despite being on display in the premier league until the New Year he will not look to add to his 106 caps.

Putting my England hat on I do think this is the right call, from a City point of view too he can now focus on us without having to go away every now and then for England, when he might not have been involved anyway!

Lampard has been a superb footballer, perhaps not always at his best on the international stage, but all being well we can still see some of his magic in a City shirt.
