Late City Transfer Deals Disappoint

There was a late, final day flurry of activity as the transfer window came to its close, but unfortunately it’s ended as a bit of a damp squib if you’re an expectant City fan.

We already knew that Andy Cole had done a runner to Pompey, but I think most of us were surprised to see Newcastle snap up French Tony for an undisclosed fee, although I don’t think most of us will be too sorry to see him go.

Something that came right out of left field though was signing USA winger DaMarcus Beasley from PSV Eindhoven – wasn’t he the lad who was so publicly caught short on the touchline in the World Cup? I’m sure our groundsman won’t stand for any pitch-side leaks at Eastalnds.

I’m actually feeling a bit disappointed as rumoured links with the likes of Marcus Bent, Thomert and Malbranque turned out to be exactly that!

So where does that leave us? Well I guess we now have a squad with a lower average age with the likes of Cole, James and Sibierski gone, but we still have a weak left side and don’t really have a creative play-maker in midfield.

I hope Beasley proves me wrong, but I can’t see him setting the Premiership alight and giving opposition right backs sleepless nights about the prospect of marking him, although they may not fancy a sliding tackle near the touchline if it looks a bit damp.

Looks like we’ll be looking to our Academy lads once again to bolster up the 1st team, and with the young talent we have, that’s probably not such a bad thing.
