Lay Off City Fans Beeky !

As usual this morning, I was listening to the excellent Alan Brazil show on TalkSport hoping to hear some good discussion on the City v ‘Boro game. But instead, it was really disappointing to hear co-host Graham ‘Beeky’ Beecroft having a go at City fans for a ‘poor’ 36,000 turnout for a televised Monday night game and he went on to suggest that City fans didn’t really deserve their tag as being one of the most loyal set of fans around.

Regular listeners to TalkSport will know that Beeky can’t even make up his mind if he’s a Liverpool, Everton or Tranmere Rovers supporter, and to criticise City fans like that is poor journalism.

Beeky may have forgotten that during our quite recent and darker days in the old Division 2 and 3 we were regularly getting over 30,000 crowds with fantastic away support as well. How many other clubs like City would have had that support during tough times in the lower leagues – not many !

I was glad to hear Alan Brazil stick up for us, as 36,000 on a miserable grey Monday night for a televised Sky game is a pretty good turnout. Most Monday night games have much lower attendances, so it’s not just a City thing. I was at last season’s televised FA Cup tie on a cold Sunday night at Villa Park, when the ground was barely half-full; somewhere around 25,000 and over 6000 were City fans! I don’t recall Beeky having a go at the Villa for their shocking turnout that night.

So come on Beeky, you ‘Numpty’, don’t question our loyalty; everyone knows we’re the best fans in the world ….. except it seems you !!!
