The Premier League has appointed referee Lee Mason to officiate this afternoon’s game at the Etihad between Manchester City and Burnley.

Lee Mason season 2016/17

Bolton born Lee Mason, a self-confessed Bolton Wanderers supporter currently resides in Portsmouth, Hampshire. The 45-year-old former chairman of the Bolton Referees’ Society is associated with the Lancashire County Football Association. His younger brother, Andy Mason, is a former professional footballer who played for their home club, among others.


The only game Lee has taken charge of a City game this season was on Saturday 29 October when Pep Guardiola’s side went to West Bromwich Albion and won 4-0. On that occasion he showed Kolarov, Fernando and Nolito yellows.

With 10 Premier League and one Championship matches under his belt Mr Mason has so far issued 41 yellows and one red card.
