Lessons Learned, Let’s Win That Cup

We certainly need to win the FA Cup in an effort to save what has been, for want of a better word, in my opinion, a disastrous season…

To be ousted off the top spot by rivals United was heartbreaking to say the least for the fans and I can imagine it must have felt doubly bad for the players and the whole of the City entourage.

Even Sergio Aguero himself admitted we have to win the FA Cup mainly to save face but also to give the fans something back as payment for all the devotion and commitment. It is not an option to finish this season empty-handed. Victory at Wembley is a must.

Of course, the stakes are so high and our ambition so stratospheric that it is always important to win trophies now and one this year would be a big bonus and a a sign of continued progress, however, I have to say that simply, certain players try slightly harder than others and it has shown even to the extent where some of them are already ‘half out of the door’ in a matter of weeks.

The elation myself and no doubt countless millions of fans felt when we last won the FA Cup two years ago against Stoke was sensational and we want that elation back. Against Wigan we are of course expected worldwide to win the trophy in London but nothing at this level is a given.

City have fallen way way short of expectations this season. Whether this is because the players didn’t realise what a fight they would have on their hands after being crowned champions or for another reason…whatever the reason, we have fallen short. A lot obviously has to be to do with the fact that we did not bolster our players in the transfer windows that followed title glory. Whether this was down to the City hierarchy thinking we didn’t need to or whether it was alleged stupidity on the part of Brian Marwood I don’t know but whatever the cause it had a calamitous effect. The rags have had a title stroll as a direct consequence of our inconsistency.

On the whole, City have a squad of good players who do commit to the fight and if they can keep that commitment going with the right acquisitions, then the league title will be a lot easy to go at next season.

In an article in The Daily Mail I noted that Sergio Aguero has stated that he ‘does not feel pressure.’ Maybe he should start to feel it a little because all teams experience pressure, that is what keeps them going and pushing harder and striving to go forward. Playing as a team is also a must, play as individuals certainly with your own unique talent, but don’t forget to play as a team. City have a strong team ethic.

I registered as did others at the semi-final, that it produced towards the end a lot of tired looking City players, most likely due to the fact that there is a lot of ground to cover out there but by the time the final is upon us, despite this mini run of an intense fixture list, the adrenaline levels of the players of both City and Wigan should be up and in ‘go get ’em’ mode.

Will we win? We are the odds on favourites. Let’s hope our hopes and expectations realised again. There is no reason whatsoever why they shouldn’t be.
