Liverpool 0-0 City: Player Deserves 9/10 While Another Receives a Paltry 3.5

|

I was expecting more out of yesterday’s top of the table Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, nevertheless and on reflection, I can’t complain about the result.

Referee – Martin Atkinson

My assessment on how Atkinson performed can be found here.

My MCFC player ratings, out of ten.

Ederson – 6

One or two marvellous passes to get the ball rolling out of defense but other than that he hardly touched it. Was that because our backline did their job or was it because Liverpool failed to perform?

Kyle Walker – 7

Sprinting runs, solid tackles. Just another game!

John Stones – 8.5

John and his partner Aymeric Laporte complimented one another as if they were telepathic. As good as a performance I can remember. Meaningful headers, passing, and courage throughout made me proud.

Aymeric Laporte – 9 (MotM)

Edging out Stones for Man of the Match – just. The thing he had over John was he looked a tad more composed. And that is saying something especially when Stones was as cool as a cucumber.

Benjamin Mendy – 6

First game for a few weeks following a foot injury, and it showed. A tad off the pace, especially in the first half. Gave the ball away too often for my liking.

Fernandinho – 7.5

Never afraid to get stuck in is our Fern. He must have left Anfield feeling battered and bruised following some crunching tackles.

Bernardo Silva – 6

Never really displayed his usual slickness. Was he tired?

David Silva – 6

See above.

Riyad Mahrez – 3.5

Oh, dear…another feeble display. Outmuscled and outplayed. Oh and his dismal penalty miss nearly sent me into a tizzy. His £60m price-tag is not doing him justice, not unless we see a massive improvement.

Sergio Aguero – 6

Another one who struggled albeit one could see he was trying. Finger on the pulse? Not on this occasion.

Raheem Sterling – 5

The Scouse boo-boys were in fine fettle, again. It’s not the first time Raz has ensured similar scenes, but he just can’t cope with playing at his best in hostile environments.

Substitutes

 Gabriel Jesus (for Kun – 65) – 6

0.01 % better than Sergio.

Leroy Sane (replaced Raheem – 76) – 7

Won the penalty, run their defense ragged. Excellent all-around performance even though his appearance was brief.
