City strike another chance at getting something on their travels; the only problem being is that it is at fortress Anfield and even when we were a great side 30+ years ago, we struggled to win there.

Liverpool Quality

Stuart Pearce talks about Liverpools qualities.

At any one given time, Liverpool can hurt you,’

They have a lot of quality. Kuyt is a very good player who I have liked for a while before he joined Liverpool. Gerrard’s a world class performer, so couple that with their other players it means that they will be a good outfit whoever they will have available.’ ‘We know they’ll be strong, you try to do your homework as best you can from a preparation point of view. We have watched them enough times, we know what they are about and seeing them play PSV was an ideal last look at them for me ahead of Saturday.’

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool have a few injury worries with doubts over Gonzalez, Alonso, Pennant and Warnock. With long term injuries to Sissoko, Liverpool’s midfield could look pretty makeshift and lack that extra bite.

Player to watch: Steven Gerrard

A world class midfielder that any team would love to have playing for them.

Manchester City Team News:

No new injury worries for the blues, in fact City now have three Midfielders vying for that place alongside Barton, which may mean a five man midfield with Corradi playing the lone striker role with Trabelsi and Vassell providing some much needed pace and width to the team.

Player to watch: Hatem Trabelsi

Continues to impress and has a real understanding with Micah Richards down the right hand side.

Few Games Won

City’s record at Anfield is abysmal with only the one victory there in the premiership coming four season’s ago when Peter Schmiechel produced his finest game for us to deny Liverpool taking a bigger lead and allowing Nic Anelka the opportunity at getting two late goals. Indeed City have only managed two other premiership victories over Liverpool, they have come in April 95 when Gaudino and Summerbee scored to win two one and Musampa’s late winner two season’s ago, both being at home. So the omens point to a home victory.

Ref Watch:

Rob Styles – the nice referee who sent Sylvain Distin off at Chelsea last season for not giving him the ball back and allowing Drogba to cheat a goal against us; such a nice man!

Match Prediction:

City to give Liverpool a good game, but to fall just short. Liverpool to win 2-1.

Next Fixtures:

Away to Aston Villa – a good hunting ground for City.
