Loan Watch: Patrick Roberts Left In Limbo, So Now What? – Opinion

|

Once a promising Manchester City prospect the name Patrick Roberts used to roll off the tongue as slick as butter off hot toast. But now, apart from Celtic fans, who are desperate to take him north of the border for a third term its, Patrick WHO?

The 21-year-old, who spent two-and-a-half seasons (2016-2018) applying his trade with the Glasgow giants, on-loan since his Etihad move from Fulham in 2015 collected an impressive three Premiership titles and four domestic cup winners medals before returning to City in preparation for the 2018/19 season.

A short stint with the lads over in America on a pre-season tour and that was it. He was shipped off, AGAIN to Manchester City’s Spanish partner club Girona until the end of this campaign.

Roberts has made only three La Liga starts since his temporary move and rumours have surfaced to suggest his time in Spain may be cut short and his MCFC return in January is inevitable.

Left in Limbo

There is not a hope in hell the London born winger will EVER get near Pep Guardiola’s squad and so its self-evident Roberts could be left in limbo until a decision about his future away from Manchester is made.

His City contract runs until June 2020, and with City forking out £12m for his services three-and-a-half years ago I am sure the club will be prepared to offload the youngster, at a loss, to the highest bidder.

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven were reportedly sniffing around Roberts last summer, but a pathetic £6m proposed bid fell on deaf ears.

What now?

Undoubtedly, a man with talent should be playing regular first-team football, and so I wonder if Brendan Rodgers will conjure up a competitive bid and in doing so give the chap a future.
