What a difference a week or two makes eh?
This time a couple of weeks ago, the empire was falling apart around our feet & our most famous commodity, our most passionate loyal supporters were jumping ship as quick as the Yewnited fans did before that famous cup win at Forest!
22,000 people showed their unswerving loyalty to the cause in renewing their season tickets against the backdrop of some of the poorest football fair ever served up in the Premier league. I don`t need to remind you of the statistics, but the pain is still strong yet WE renewed. Come rain wind or shine, goals or no goals, defeat after defeat, cheap dig after cheap dig & I am proud that we reacted the way that we did & I salute you one & all for keeping the faith.
Now the sun has started to shine & all seems a lot rosier in the garden, I understand that “Business is Brisk” at the ticket office.
For me, football is something you either do or don`t. It`s not like the theatre although you could argue that with some of the personnel that now attend and the way the players gesticulate, it is going that way!!
Football is handed down from father to son. Generation to generation. The unprecedented success of the Junior Blues is testament to this & is one of the main reasons we have prospered in terms of numbers over the years when the football for the main has been poor.
I used to be, and am still proud that we were/are different. That we would always have fantastic support & in the whole we still do. Remember how we pulled together in 98 in our bleakest hour ? How proud were you when 32,000 poured into Main road in those dark days? The status had deteriorated, but we became stronger.
When City walk out on August 14th at home to Derby to 48,000 cheering happy supporters, I am sure those emotions will flood back & the hairs on the back of your neck will stand to end & how proud you will feel.
WE WILL BE READY for another emotionally charged chapter in our history backed by a generous forward thinking benefactor & a shrewd sweed. How proud will you feel? Some may feel prouder & more in touch than others.
