Ludicrous claim from Spain says Pep Guardiola could sell Man City player [Opinion]

|

Javier Parra Peña of Fichajes wrote an article about potential signings Manchester City hope to make in the winter and summer transfer window on Tuesday morning, listing which existing players that may have to make way for new arrivals.

Peña claims that Pep Guardiola wants another centre-back as he’s unhappy with the performances of Rúben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones this season, but Vital Man City covered why Stones and Akanji won’t be sold.

Dias’ name being on the list is equally ludicrous, however, as he was a regular for City until injury struck in October while statistically being one of the best centre-backs Guardiola has at his disposal.

The 25-year-old has made 110 appearances in all competitions for City since joining from Benfica in 2020, scoring four goals with five assists. Dias has been a regular at centre-back, making 74/96 Premier League appearances (), but injury has resulted in him losing his place.

The Portuguese international had played in 12 of City’s first 13 league games this season but has only featured once in their last seven due to a hamstring problem. Nevertheless, Dias is third in the City squad for interceptions per game (0.9), second for clearances made per game (1.9) and third for aerial duels won per game (2), so he’s too important to let go.
