Report: Striker nearing Man City exit, player closing in on move to new club

|

Lukas Nmecha had an uncertain future at Manchester City this summer as he wasn’t in Pep Guardiola’s plans and would have to leave to get first-team football. Well it appears he’s been handed an escape rope as Gianluigi Longari of Sport Italia says the 22-year-old is closing in on a move to Vfl Wolfsburg.

Nmecha impressed in City’s youth ranks, scoring 15 goals with three assists in 16 games for the U18s, scoring eight goals with one assist in 14 games for the U19s and scoring 27 goals with four assists in 35 games for the U23s.

The uncapped German featured only three times at senior level, however, so he sought loan moves away to get regular action. Nmecha joined Preston North End (August 2018 – May 2019), Vfl Wolfsburg (August 2019 – January 2020), Middlesbrough (January 2020 – July 2020) and RSC Anderlecht (August 2020 – June 2021).

He fired a lot of blanks at Preston, Wolfsburg and Middlesbrough but scored 21 goals and made three assists in 41 games at Anderlecht which is why clubs are now paying attention. Wolfsburg clearly believe Nmecha can improve in his second stint in Germany, so they’re taking a punt on him.
