Maicon Rumour Back

According to The Telegraph, Roberto Mancini will try to raid his former club, Inter Milan for arguably the world’s best right-back, Maicon:

Mancini also wants to move for Maicon, the powerful Brazilian international right-back who he coached at Inter Milan and whose representatives have wanted to move to the Premier League for some time.

They tried to interest Chelsea last summer, with Inter wanting to do a deal involving Ricardo Carvalho and Deco moving to Italy in exchange, but this was vetoed by Carlo Ancelotti.

With Micah Richards struggling and Pablo Zabletta only regarded as cover, the right-back position is a problem for City. They may also look to improve the other flank, although Lescott, when fit, could move over if Mancini does not rate Wayne Bridge, who has struggled since his move from Chelsea. Again Maicon would command a significant transfer fee.

If Mancini signs both (Maicon & Chiellini), they are unlikely to be the last arrivals from either Italy or from Inter, with Jose Mourinho also wanting to continue the overhaul of his squad at the San Siro.

We have been linked to Maicon before but there hasn’t been much substance behind the deal. However, we now have a big name manager in Mancini who Maicon has worked under previously. He would probably cost around £20m. And the fact that both Richards and Zabaleta have been unable to stamp their names on the right-back spot could prompt a move.

Do you think we have a chance of securing Maicon’s services?
