Vital Manchester City understands MCFC has agreed a fee with Aston Villa for keeper Shay Given and by all accounts the deal should go through, pending a medical as early as next week.
Both clubs are keeping their lips sealed regarding the transfer figure, however City are expected to take a hit from when the club paid Newcastle £7 million in 2009.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League but Joe Hart’s emergence as first-choice keeper for club and country forced Given onto the City bench for most of last season, with the 113-cap international restricted to just four cup appearances.
Both Manchester City and Aston Villa are expected to make an announcement in due course.
