Man City battle to sign £50m-rated “complete centre-back” with Ligue 1 giants – Report

According to an update courtesy of French news outlet le10sport, Man City are currently in a battle with Paris-Saint Germain, Arsenal and Chelsea to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano this summer – and the colossus is currently valued at around £50 million.

Upamecano, who has started 27 Bundesliga matches this season under Julian Nagelsmann, being described already as one of the best centre-backs in Europe, is now at the centre of Txiki Begiristain’s interest along with a few other star defensive names, according to reports.

Who would you prefer at the Etihad?

Upamecano

Koulibaly

Teammate Dani Olmo once described the 21-year-old prodigy as a ‘complete centre back’ and ‘the future of France’, an enticing tag given his age and the fact he could sign for a much cheaper fee than Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Daily Mail recently claimed that City were targeting the likes of Koulibaly and David Alaba as part of a defensive reshuffle, especially considering our issues in that department over 2019/2020, but now le10sport understand that we are also monitoring Upamecano.

However, if we do want to sign the defender, City face competition for his signature from Arsenal, Chelsea and Ligue 1 giants PSG.

The Sky Blues have been mentioned in past reports as one of the interested parties, but now le10sport have confirmed that we may be ramping up our pursuit.

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi’s worrying form at times throughout the campaign, Aymeric Laporte’s fitness trouble and the absence of Fernandinho in his usual role protecting the back four arguably highlight City’s need for a star defensive signing – but it remains to be seen whether Upamecano will become that figure.
