Man City ‘closely following’ highly-rated young ‘talent’ from Celtic, could cost £2m

|

According to Andrea Losapio of TuttoMercatoWeb, Manchester City are ‘closely following’ Rocco Vata – a 17-year-old attacking-midfielder from Celtic. The Scottish-born Irish youth international has risen through the youth ranks to the fringes of Celtic’s first-team and looks to have a bright future.

TMW say AC Milan, Juventus, AS Roma and Arsenal are also showing an interest in Vata, so there will be stiff competition for his signature. The 17-year-old’s valuation is reportedly around £2m, but Celtic have no intention of letting him go.

Vata has made four appearances for the U19s, scoring one goal. He’s made 13 appearances for the B team, scoring five times with one assist, so it’s easy to see why clubs are keen.

TMW say Ange Postecoglou recognises the attacking-midfielder’s quality and is desperate to keep him in Scotland, but the lure of another European giant may be too good to turn down.

City have Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden who can operate in Vata’s role, so the 17-year-old would have some fantastic mentors if he made the switch. But as he’s yet to break into Celtic’s first-team, Vata might be smart to stay in Scotland until he’s at senior level.
