Writing in a piece for Bleacher Report, journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Man City are among a host of Premier League clubs ‘closely tracking‘ Bundesliga star Kai Havertz – with the player also tipped as a viable candidate to succeed Leroy Sane.
Havertz, starting 26 games for Bayer Leverkusen, has scored an impressive 11 goals from midfield whilst assisting five others as per WhoScored, prompting figures around the Etihad to allegedly believe he would be Sane’s ideal heir.
The City winger has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich for almost a year, with the transfer saga showing almost no sign of ending.
Who is the superior attacker?
As a result, due to Sane’s reluctance over penning a new deal, the Sky Blues are now being touted with potentially serious interest in Havertz – and his price tag is rumoured to be an eye-watering €100 million (£89 million).
Signing the 21-year-old sensation would mean breaking our transfer record for the second time in two seasons, with last summer’s £62.8 million deal to sign Rodrigo currently standing out as our most expensive acquisition.
As well as City, the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern, Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool are also rumoured to be in the hunt – with six big clubs in total circling a deal for the Germany international.
Only City kingpin Kevin De Bruyne has managed more key passes this season, potentially highlighting the notion Havertz would be a stellar creative addition.
Whether or not we follow up on this interest remains to be seen, but he could have all the accolades to become a star Etihad signing.
